![]() Without that expectation, it's easy to imagine someone finding the controls to be frustrating or awkward. ![]() SotC fans will have a head start because while some of the buttons are different, the core "feel" of movement is very similar. I don't want to call them bad, but they require a fair amount of effort to learn. Unfortunately, that also includes the somewhat awkward and very ponderous controls. Few other games have captured the feel of Shadow of the Colossus as well as this. Yes, it feels familiar, but that's a good thing. I really like the designs and how incredibly epic it feels to fight one. Know that the gods trend toward far more inhuman looks than the Shadow of the Colossus creatures, and even one of the earliest is a giant wormlike creature that pelts the area with deadly blasts as you struggle to approach it. Each one is distinctive and interesting, and I'm loathe to spoil them for those who have avoided spoilers. They are large epic encounters that task you with figuring out how to mount and kill something roughly 50 times your size - and that's at the small end. The current estimated release date is December 2017, so if you decide to fund it, be prepared for a "little bit" of a wait. The fights against the gods are the high point of Praey. On the other hand, if you would like to purchase a digital copy, the cheapest tier on Kickstarter that contains one as a reward will set you back $15. If you're interested in learning more about Prey for the Gods, or just looking up some screenshots or gifs, you will find all of that on the official website. Its certainly a unique idea, though I'm not sure how well it will function in the actual game without being either irrelevant or annoying, but I suppose we'll find out eventually. The most interesting part of combat, however, is that your weapons can break and that your quiver can only hold so many arrows within it, so its not only going to be a race against the bosses health, but also against your own dwindling supplies. In other words, you will need to dodge away from enemy blows, strike only when the opportunity is right, climb all over the bigger enemies in order to reach their weak spots, and hopefully somehow survive throughout the whole ordeal. Perhaps a blizzard will help keep the giant crow-dragon grounded throughout the battle, or perhaps heavy rain will make your vision worse against a mostly airborne enemy. The possibilities are nearly endless and quite exciting, so here's to hoping this ends up featuring prominently in the final version.Īs for the actual combat, its being advertised as "fast-paced, brutal, and up to you". ![]() No clear example of this has been given just yet, but the developers have confirmed that some bosses will be a completely different experience depending on what type of weather you happen to fight in. You will need to hunt for food, avoid treacherous snowstorms, keep warm throughout the cold nights, and most interestingly, adapt your boss tactics depending on the weather. Thankfully, there is a bit of hope on the horizon as Prey for the Gods, a rather stylish indie game about exploring an unknown land and crawling all over large enemies, has recently landed on Kickstarter. Here's the trailer to give you an idea of what Prey for the Gods is all about:īesides the usual exploration & combat you might expect from a Shadow of the Colossus inspired adventure, Prey for the Gods also features survival aspects and a constantly changing weather system that will impact your strategies. ![]() Even though Shadow of the Colossus still gets showered with praise, 10 years after its initial release, not a single studio has taken it upon themselves to create an adventure with the same scope and grandeur. ![]()
